Merstham’s inconsistent form continued with an ineffectual performance against newly promoted Peacehaven & Telscombe.the hatches in an attempt to make sure that they went into the half-time break without conceding another goal. As the whistle sounded to bring the first half to an end, the Moatsiders had been successful in this and went in only 2-0 down.
After the break, and with Merstham using all of their substitutes within the first ten minutes of the restart, the game continued in the same form as the first half. The visitors continued to dominate possession and in the 51st minute, Walker put the game to bed as a contest with his third of the afternoon. An inch perfect through-ball split the Merstham defence and the impressive striker delicately chipped the ball over the advancing Brannon Daly to bag a hat-trick. The Moatsider’s had given themselves a mountain to climb to try and get back into this game but as the half continued the home team started to come back into it. With the energetic Tommy Hutchings leading the line, Merstham had more possession in the last 20 minutes of the match then they had previously but they were unable to make anything of it. As the final whistle went, Merstham had been beaten, but not broken, by a team that surely will be pushing for promotion this season.
