It turned into a great match with both sides playing good football for 90 minutes and both keepers having to work hard. Peacehaven showed their desire for the ball with Carl Dunk's over exuberant challenge in the 1st minute earning him a yellow card.
The first 10 minutes was a battle of the midfield with the first clear chance coming to Ashley Rees. Through one on one he calmly chipped the keeper. Hassocks defence scrambled back to clear the ball via the underside of the crossbar, even though it seemed to have crossed the line. Were we denied a "Lampard"? We may be waiting a while for goal line technology to reach the County League.
After 20 mins some good build up play led to Carl Dunk finding himself in space just outside the area and his low drive went just wide of the upright. Hassocks followed up in the next few minutes with some good attacking play and only 2 good saves from Joe Adams prevented a Hassocks lead.
Just before half time Hassocks could or should have had a penalty as a last ditch challenge to prevent Jamie Weston going through seemed mistimed. The referee though surprisingly waved it away.
The second half started well again and calm control from Brad Murray was followed by an excellent shot from 25 yards. It looped over the diving Jack Simpson to nestle in the top corner and give Peacehaven the advantage in the 54th minute.
Five minutes later Hassocks moved to a more attacking formation and over loaded the Peacehaven defence. Despite a fine double save from Joe Adams, Jamie Westlake was in space to drive in the third rebound on 62 minutes.
Another five minutes later a clumsy challenge left the ball on the penalty spot for Carl Dunk to drive the ball low and to Simpsons left. 2-1 to Peacheaven after 67 minutes.
The last 20 minutes was again a battle of the midfield with Peacehaven continuing to find time and space on the left side holding Hassocks back.
Peacehaven had not won at Hassocks for a few years but a committed performance saw them take 3 points and move closer to the top four.
