Peacehaven started solidly with many of the same faces from last year sporting the black & white shirts. The first half this showed as Peacehaven began straight away to play as a unit and Leatherhead's new squad needed time to gel. A good first half move gave Peacehaven the lead after 15 mins when an inswinging ball met Josh Jones to fire home from close range.
The second half saw Peacehaven under pressure as Leatherhead game out determined to get something from the game. A barrage of attacks had Peacehaven pinned back defending for the first 10 minutes and Leatherhead's pressure eventually told. After a previous attack was semi-cleared the ball dropped to Kiernan Hughes -Mason at the edge of the area and he thumped the ball towards to the top left corner past Di Bernado.
Peacehaven then had a certain amount of attacking play but still Leatherhead dominated. After 65 minutes an end to end set of attacking saw both teams hit the outside of the upright within a minute signalling more goals were brewing. A second slightly more scrambled goal game after 70 minutes when Di Bernado's close range save rebounded to Cark Rook who stuck out a leg to divert it into the goal from just a few yards.
Shaun Saunders decided to make some changes and Marzetti and McGlaughlin came off for Charlie Pitcher and Marc Knee. The impact was swift and decisive as Pitcher drove to the byline turned his defender and rolled the ball to Brotherton to pass the ball in from 6 yards for 2-2.
In the later stages a Leatherhead sub came on and got involved after a tackle which led to him being sent off after only being on the pitch for a couple of minutes.
An enjoyable game to watch and sees Peacehaven off the mark for this campaign, as with last year, beginning with a 2-2 draw. next up we are visited by Tonbridge Angels on Wednesday night who won 4-1 against VCD Athletic. Come along and support the Magpies!
