Peacehaven back to winning ways against Uckfield

Four goals, and four different scorers, saw Peacehaven bounce back from Monday’s disappointment to earn another three points this afternoon. Ross Barclay, Harry Docherty, Billy Oliver and Max Hollobone were all on target to ease the home side to victory.

After a slow start to the match, captain Barclay was the quickest to react from a loose ball in the box after another a great corner delivery from George Cook. The Uckfield goalkeeper, Charlie Hochwood, wasn’t able to catch the original header from Docherty and Barclay hit a volley, on the swivel, into the back of the net for his second goal in the last three games.

The boys came out with a heightened intensity for the second half, and managed to double their lead within the first five minutes from another corner. Cook floated it into the back post and after three headers testing the keeper already, Docherty managed to fly one past him this time.

Docherty minutes later was again causing issues for the Uckfield defence with a magnificent piece of skill to knock it around their full-back and deliver a pinpoint cross onto the head of Barclay, however this time Hochwood held onto it to keep the deficit at just two for Uckfield.

On the stroke of the hour, Oliver saw the ball fall perfectly for him on the edge of the box and thundered home a half-volley leaving the goalkeeper standing still as he wheeled off to celebrate. Having missed a big chance in the first half, Oliver made no mistake in dispatching the third of the afternoon.

As Peacehaven hunted for their fourth, Guy Bolton managed to get the ball under control with a few kick-ups on the edge of Uckfield’s box but his shot that was destined for the far left corner was headed away. Minutes later Hollobone picked the ball up 25-yards from goal and with a slight deflection off the knee of Archie Carey, it nestled in the bottom left corner.

Despite very few chances for Uckfield, Nathan Stroomberg-Clarke showed his quality once again, stretching to make a close range save from Ellis Wright, helping to earn Peacehaven’s twelfth clean sheet in the league so far.

They chased after a fifth goal, however it wasn’t to come. The best of the late chance’s fell to the young Muffaro Hucchu, who anticipated Cook’s corner sailing over the goalkeeper's attempted punch and was lurking at the back post to try and head it home. His attempt was blocked on the line by Carey and despite claims from Peacehaven’s number seven for handball, it was waved away by the referee shortly before blowing his whistle for full time.

Peacehaven will take this momentum into their next game against Shoreham FC next Saturday, where they will hope to continue a strong finish to the season.
