CURT FORD hit three goals as Peacehaven cruised to a 5-0 win against Seaford in the first round of the Sussex Senior Cup.

PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE moved seamlessly into the second round of the Parafix Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening when they did a comprehensive and professional demolition job on their near neighbours Seaford Town.

The home side never allowed the visitors to settle and overwhelmed them as they played their brand of fast possession football which left Seaford chasing shadows.

It would have been easy for Peacehaven to have taken their opposition lightly, but that was never going to be the case and straight from the off, Peacehaven showed their intent.

In midfield, Cam Wiltshire is getting back to his best after injury and looked composed and mobile as he sprayed passes all around the park. And up front Tyler Capon and Manny Okorougo were both incisive and direct and both deserved their goals.

But it was striker Curt Ford (pictured) who stole the headlines with three superbly taken goals. And if it hadn’t have been for Josh Meason in the Seaford goal it could have been a lot more.

Meason made several excellent saves, non-better than in the 15th minute after Wiltshire had jinked past three Seaford players and then slotted the ball to Ford whose left foot shot was brilliantly saved down by the 'keeper's right hand post.

Peacehaven opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Josh Marshall found Wiltshire who played a great ball for Ford and he slotted home from the edge of the box.

With 22 minutes played Haven thought they had doubled their lead when Okorougo jinked passed three players and slammed the ball into the net. Initially the referee gave the goal, but after consulting his linesman, it was ruled out for handball.

But just two minutes later Okorougo did score after Capon flicked on a Josh Marshall free kick for the player to score from close range to double Haven’s lead.

Although Seaford did threaten briefly when they broke through the Haven back line on a couple of occasions, Peacehaven had Loz Sanded to thank for his swift intervention. This was all they managed throughout the whole first period.

Half time: Peacehaven & Telscombe 2, Seaford Town 0.

Peacehaven now needed to turn their first half superiority into more goals, and on 53 minutes Ford effectively made the game safe as he drove forward and rounded the ‘keeper to finish in an empty net.

With just over an hour played, Wiltshire and Josh Marshall were both replaced by Anesu Sisimayi, a recent signing from Whitehawk who is showing enormous potential, and Beau Langan, who at just 18 was making his first appearance of the season and is another player to look out for.

On 81 minutes, Ford got his third after Langan’s corner was flicked on by Felipe Lira, for Ford to rifle into the top of the net.

With just three minutes left to play, Capon scored the best of the night when he skipped past four players and finished low into the bottom corner.

Normally it’s Josh Marshall who gets the plaudits, but a special mention should made of his name sake Scott Marshall. At 31 years of age he is by his own admission, the elder statesman of the team.

After returning to the club this season, he has shown great loyalty, passion and commitment when he has been called upon. Big-hearted Marshall hasn’t been a regular starter, but on Tuesday he did start and finish the game in which he cajoled and encouraged all those around him and gave everything he had for the team’s cause.

Credit should be given to Seaford Town, who under the constant barrage they were made to endure, retained their discipline and when given the chance, did attempt to play football. But this was Peacehaven’s night.

Final score: Peacehaven & Telscombe 5, Seaford Town 0.

Peacehaven & Telscombe: Sanded, Le Grange, Lira, Grant, Allen, Capon, Marshall (S), Ford, Okorougo, Marshall (J), Wiltshire. Subs: Waller, Sisimayi, Bant, Langhan, Kinkene.

Attendance: 156.

Peacehaven are next in action on Saturday when they are at home to Pagham in an SCPL game. This one kicks-off at 3pm.
