PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE hit four goals without reply against a spirited Wick side to reach the fourth round of the Peter Bentley Cup.

After Saturday’s disappointing FA Vase defeat, manager Mark Shutt (pictured) needed to pick up his young side and was looking for an incisive and positive response. It didn’t take long.

With just eleven minutes played Manny Okorougo, with great hold up play in the box, played an inch perfect pass for Josh Marshall to dispatch his shot into the bottom corner. Would the floodgates now open?

Peacehaven were relentless and in total control with Marshall and Marcus Allen both going close, but they couldn’t turn their superiority into goals.

Half time: Peacehaven & Telscombe 1, Wick 0.

It only took three minutes of the second period for the home side to double their lead. Curt Ford sent in a speculative shot which the visiting keeper failed to gather and Peacehaven were two goals to the good.

An improved Wick were now moving the ball more quickly and finding space, but they were being punished when they lost possession.

The home side’s movement was right out of the top drawer with Cam Wiltshire, Marshall, Allen and Okorougo all going close.

Peacehaven had to wait until the 85th minute to finally make the game safe when Ford got his second after dispossessing the Wick ‘keeper.

And then just two minutes later Wiltshire scored the goal of the night when he smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar after a great ball from Jake Brocklebank who passed to Marshall and then to Wiltshire for the midfielder to get his second goal in two games.

Final score: Peacehaven & Telscombe 4, Wick, 0.

Peacehaven & Telscombe: Sanded, Le Grange, Bant, Grant, Allen, Okorougo, Brocklebank, Ford, Lambert, Marshall, Wiltshire. Subs: Kinkene, Richmond, Cheeseman, Fitzpatrick, Secka.

Attendance: 126.

Peacehaven are next in action on Saturday when they are away to Broadbridge Heath in an SCPL game.

If you fancy a catching game on Saturday and are not going to Broadbridge Heath, the reserves are at home to Polgate with a 2pm kick-off. Entry to this one is free.
