TWO committed teams slugged it out as Peacehaven went out of the FA Vase on Saturday.

Going into the game, both teams had a similar record with Peacehaven hoping to extend their fourteen game unbeaten run.

The Kent side came into the game with more experience and included three players with Football League experience.

Right from the off, the visitors put a marker down that they meant business when Alieu Secka in the home goal made a excellent save when he tipped the ball over the bar.

Glebe had clearly decided that they wanted to make a quick start and with eight minutes played were 1-0 up when Jessie Darko made the most of a mix up at the back.

But just four minutes later Haven’s first meaningful attack produced a goal when Josh Marshall went on a brilliant run and found Cam Wiltshire (pictured) who brilliantly lobbed Blue in the Glebe goal to bring Haven level.

The pendulum now swung in Haven’s direction and they began to have more of the play and dominated their opponents.

Wiltshire was incredibly influential in the first half, but an injury just before halftime meant that during the second period his influence diminished.

On 16 minutes Jake Le Grange met a Marshall corner with a thumping header which was cleared off the line.

Two minutes later Marshall went close after a great ball from Wiltshire.

But then on 22 minutes against the run of play Glebe retook the lead through Jamie Phillpot with a speculative shot from the edge of the box.

With 38 minutes played Charlie Lambert thought he had equalised with a thumping header which was ruled out for offside. Lambert’s subsequent protestations led him to be sin-binned for ten minutes.

And with Haven down to ten men, Glebe made it 3-1 when from a corner when Rab Kinkene put through his own goal.

With one man down, Haven now had a mountain to climb.

They took the game to their visitors and it was difficult to see that the home side was a player down.

With the half in its final minute, Marshall scored a brilliant solo effort to put Peacehaven back in the game going into the break.

Halftime: Peacehaven & Telscombe 2, Glebe Utd, 3.

The early part of the second period swung back and forth with the game becoming even more competitive and absorbing.

With an hour played, Manny Okorougo drew Haven level when he fired between the ‘keeper’s legs to make it 3-3.

Both sides now went looking for the winner and it was Glebe who hit their fourth when Brad Bant hacked down a Glebe player and the resultant penalty was converted.

Haven now went up a gear as Glebe retreated and substitute Marcus Richmond went close in the 77th minute with a brilliant header.

Peacehaven tried everything and Marcus Allen pushed forward looking to replicate his late equaliser against Steyning.

Haven laid siege on the Glebe goal but it wasn’t to be. In the 93rd minute Stacey Long took advantage of Peacehaven’s pressing to make it 5-3 for Glebe and game over.

Final score: Peacehaven & Telscombe 3, Glebe Utd 5.

Peacehaven & Telscombe: Secka, Le Grange, Bant, Grant, Wiltshire, Allen, Okorougo, Brocklebank, Lambert, Kinkene, Lambert. Subs: Langan, Richmond, Mc Donnell, Edwards, Fitzpatrick.
