THE first qualifying round of the FA Vase gets underway this weekend, and Steyning Town are the visitors to The Sports Park on Saturday.

The FA Vase is the national knockout competition for step five to seven clubs with the final taking place at Wembley Stadium.

Steyning Town were promoted last season from Division One of the Southern Combination League and are back in the top flight of Sussex football for the first time since the mid - 1980s. Off the pitch, they have been through a tough time in recent years but now have their house in order and are on the climb once more.

Peacehaven did play Steyning away last season in the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup and won that encounter 3-0.

This season Steyning have got off to an encouraging start to their league campaign and are in 12th place with six points from their five games. And on Tuesday evening they comprehensively defeated Saltdean Utd 3-0 so will be buoyed up by that good showing.

The game kicks off at 3pm. Entry is £7 for adults, £5 for over 65s and under 18s get in for free. The clubhouse will be open and the club’s award winning chips will take centre stage on the snack bar menu.
