MORE THAN 50 teams from across Sussex, and one from Surrey, came to town last weekend for Peacehaven’s annual festival of youth football.

On Saturday the sun shone and a sort of festival atmosphere developed around the football action with tents and picnic tables in abundance and on Sunday, the weather was overcast but just perfect for playing football.

Peacehaven & Telscombe FC youth chairman and event organiser Mike Bradbury said: "I was delighted how the weekend went and would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teams for attending, especially their volunteer coaches and parent supporters.”

“I am also extremely proud of the support I received from all the club's volunteers before the tournament and over last weekend, as without them there would not have been a tournament."

Journalist Adam Stenning covered the weekend's action and he takes a look at the tournament success which the host club enjoyed.

Home club’s success
Peacehaven & Telscombe had a very successful run in the youth tournament on Saturday, with only two of their ten teams failing to progress through to the semi-finals.

In the U9s tournament both the Peacehaven Whites and Peacehaven Blacks made it through to the semi-finals of the trophy.

Then in the shield Peacehaven Stripes made it through to the semi-finals. The Whites and the Stripes made it through to the trophy and the shield final, but both were beaten at the final hurdle against Fareham Town and Woodingdean respectively.

Peacehaven Blacks won the U10 shield final 1-0 but extra time was needed as they edged out Eastbourne Borough.

In the U11s category, there was two groups with both Peacehaven White and Peacehaven Black progressing through to the semi-finals from Group A and Peacehaven Stripes progressing through from Group B.

In the trophy semi-finals, Peacehaven Stripes took on Peacehaven White and beat them 6-0 to head into the final.

Then in the Shield semi-final, Peacehaven Blacks were defeated by Southwick Rangers.
Peacehaven Stripes repeated their semi-final score-line in the trophy final beating Premier United 6-0 to lift the trophy.

In the U13s Group only Peacehaven Black made it through to the semi-finals, but were defeated 2-1 by Hollingbury Hawks.

Then in the U14s, both Peacehaven White and Peacehaven Black made it to the Trophy semi-final to play each other and this saw Peacehaven Black narrowly win 1-0 to progress to the final.

However, in the final they were beaten 2-0 by Eastbourne Borough Black.
In the Shield, Peacehaven United made it through to the semi-final and took on Southwick Rangers Yellow.

The semi-final went to penalties with Peacehaven prevailing to head into the final.
Peacehaven United then took on Premier United in the final and narrowly won 1-0, to secure the Shield and leave Peacehaven looking back at the tournament with great success and plenty to be proud of from all age groups.
