UNDER 9s ace proud to receive the third annual memorial accolade...

The 2019 Simon Grabowski Memorial Award was this week presented to Peacehaven under 9s player Charlie Young.

The annual award, now in its third year, is named in memory of the late Peacehaven winger Simon Grabowski, who played for the club from under 8s through to the senior teams from 1994 to the mid-2000s.

Grabowski played for the first team two days before he died, tragically, in a car accident in 2005, aged just 18.

“We started the award as a legacy to Simon’s name, and it is designed to recognise triumph through adversity within the Peacehaven Youth ranks,” says Ben Cove, a former Peacehaven player and team mate of Grabowski.

“Simon loved wearing the black and white stripes of Peacehaven and we are proud to present this award to Charlie Young, who has shown similar passion for the game, and the club, and is an inspiration.”

Meanwhile, Charlie’s manager, Ian Davis, had this to say:

“Charlie was diagnosed with some serious health problems after the first six games of last season, which meant he could no longer play or train with his team-mates.

“But he has since shown tremendous determination to battle back to fitness and recently rejoined the team in time for our summer tournaments. He is a lovely lad and an inspiration to us all.”

Charlie follows in the footsteps of previous winners Ollie Cooper (2017) and George Cracknell (2018).

He was full of smiles as he collected his award, as well as a certificate and voucher for new boots and kit ahead of the new season.

Congratulations Charlie!
