PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE were at it again on Saturday as for the fourth time this season they scored in time added on.

This time it was captain and defender Marcus Allen’s (pictured) turn to inflict the heartache when he equalised Steyning Town’s 14th minute opener in the 93rd minute to send this FA Vase tie into extra time.

Manager Mark Shutt was forced to make four changes from Monday’s starting line-up at Eastbourne Utd but each and every one of the players on show covered themselves in glory. Peacehaven deserved at least a replay against a physically larger side and one that is clearly more than capable as shown by their 3-0 victory on Tuesday against Saltdean Utd.

Steyning took the lead in the 14th minute through Rob Clark giving goalkeeper Loz Sanded no chance from around 15 yards. Prior to Steyning’s opener, danger man Mikey Lloyd found himself with just Kelly in the Steyning goal to beat, but he dragged his shot wide.

The first half was not the prettiest game seen at the Sports Park this season, but Peacehaven looked like they had soaked up what Steyning could offer and could be in with a chance.

Half time: Peacehaven & Telscombe 0, Steyning Town 1.

The early stages of the second period saw Peacehaven up the pace but they couldn’t find a away through.

Peacehaven were beginning to knock at the door. Lucas Tyrell went close with a free kick, but Haven’s young guns still couldn’t find a way through.

And then with the Haven pressure mounting, Allen found himself with the goal at his mercy and slammed the ball home to the delight of the Peacehaven crowd. Steyning hardly had time to take the restart before the referee blew for full time.

For the second time this season, Peacehaven found themselves facing extra time, and even though many of the players from both sides looked out on their feet, Peacehaven took the game to their opponents and were playing with confidence and style.

In the 102nd minute Lloyd put Haven ahead when he rifled home to the delight of the home fans and 2-1 was the score going into extra period break.

With just five minutes left to play of added time Ben Hands scored a good goal for the visitors and this time it was the turn of Haven’s hearts to be broken. But to their credit they picked themselves up and dug in and with every ounce of energy left in their collective tired bodies they fought through the final five minutes to earn a well deserved replay.

Final score: Peacehaven & Telscombe 2, Steyning Town 2. (AET)

The replay will be at the Shooting Field Steyning on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.30pm.

Peacehaven & Telscombe: Sanded, Bish, Bant, Leach, Amartefeio, Allen, Lloyd, Cheeseman, Lambert, Oludade, Grimble. Subs: O’ Sullivan, Edwards, Tyrell, Richmond, Secka.
